We’re seeing traffic that arrives from AI Search converts three to four times better than standard organic search traffic. Same website, same sales team, vastly different quality of enquiry.

That gap is the whole point. Most marketing teams are measured on lead volume and website conversion rate, which quietly pushes them towards attracting the cheapest, least committed buyers in the market.

Tim Cameron-Kitchen, Founder of Exposure Ninja, makes the case for a website built to convert fewer, better-qualified buyers, and shares four steps drawn from work across client campaigns.

Get to the top of Google

Learn how to get your website to the very top of Google (and turn that traffic into revenue).

Step One: Attract the Right Traffic

You cannot convert your way out of bad traffic. Search and AI Search tend to deliver the highest quality visitors because that is where people go at the point of buying, but volume alone is a trap.

“Our goal here isn’t just to get as much traffic from Google and as much traffic from ChatGPT as possible, because if we get the wrong type of traffic that then becomes leads, our sales team is going to have a sad time,” says Tim Cameron-Kitchen.

There are four levers worth pulling.

  1. High Commercial Intent Keywords: Service Professionals, a home services business in New Jersey, came to Exposure Ninja in July 2025 with a specific problem: strong brand visibility from their vans, no visibility for the terms buyers actually search. Effective Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) on the service pages and building location pages changed the picture. Non-branded keywords went from 295 to 916, page one keywords from 14 to 133, and organic traffic tripled.
  2. Paid Search, With a Caveat: Paid search is often the fastest route to high-intent traffic. It is also, in Tim Cameron-Kitchen’s words, “the fastest way to drain even a well-stocked bank account if it’s done wrong.” Age Care Bathrooms generated 6,278 leads from paid search in a year at an average CPA of £71.27. That works because the landing pages convert and the numbers are known: lead value, lead-to-sale conversion rate, and margin.
  3. Audience-Specific Landing Pages: Elite Renewables sells solar, batteries and heat pumps to customers ranging from £2,000 domestic jobs to million-pound commercial installs. Search “commercial ground source heat pump installers”, and Elite Renewables ranks in position two, and is the first business named in the AI Overview, thanks to effective AI Search Optimisation. That is down to a dedicated page for a high-value audience segment with modest search volume and low competition.
  4. Visibility in AI Search: Buyers arriving from ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and AI Overviews have already done their homework. Tim Cameron-Kitchen adds, “It’s not uncommon for us to see the conversion rate on this type of traffic be three to four times as high as the conversion rate on regular search traffic.”

Typically, when somebody is coming onto your website having found you in AI Search, they’ve already been doing their research. They might be pre-qualified by price. They might be pre-qualified by readiness. They’ve had that conversation with the AI tool. They’ve established that you are a good solution for them, and by the time they click, in many cases, they are ready to go.

Step Two: Make Your Ideal Customer Recognise Themselves

“The job of your website is to reassure your perfect target customer that they are in the right place,” explains Tim Cameron-Kitchen.

That starts with a documented ideal customer profile (ICP), then running every asset through it. Targeting well-off women aged 50 to 65? That is who appears in your imagery. Selling to law firms? Your case studies and testimonials reference law firms.

Company size, minimum budget, project size, geography: signal all of it. Tim Cameron-Kitchen’s test is simple. You want the visitor to think: “Yeah, cool. I’m in the right place. This is for me.”

Griffin, a UK bank, takes this to its logical extreme with an eligibility page listing the businesses it will not work with. It costs them conversion rate, but it also means only pre-qualified leads reach sales.

When Transparent, a procurement services business, first came to us, its website was not calling out its ICP at all.

“We took them through a whole process called the Branding and Positioning Accelerator, where we talk to their team, we talk to their customers, we do competitor research to identify what means the most to their customer. Who is their perfect customer? What are their pain points? What are they looking for?” explains Tim Cameron-Kitchen.

After the Branding and Positioning Accelerator and a rebuilt website, they went from effectively no website leads to 51 high-quality enquiries in four months, typically five to six figures in value.

Step Three: Build Trust Before They Enquire

Recognition is not enough. High-value buyers need more reassurance than casual browsers, because they are closer to spending real money.

“Freebie hunters and low-value leads will spray and pray. They’ll put their details in loads of different websites, because it doesn’t really matter to them, and they don’t have much loyalty to any one of the sites that they’ve put their information on,” says Tim Cameron-Kitchen.

By contrast, Tim Cameron-Kitchen notes: “The highest quality leads typically do a bit more research first. They’re more careful because they are closer to the purchase.”

Elite Renewables’ ground source heat pump page is a masterclass. Background video of large projects. Accreditations and manufacturer logos. Photographs of real installations chosen to appeal to technically minded buyers. Video of genuinely complex jobs, including closing a road to install a system for a swimming pool. Case studies, then Google reviews pulled through live.

Every element answers the same unspoken question: Have you done this for someone like me before?

Your own checklist:

  • Relevant case studies
  • Testimonials
  • Client logos
  • Results and ROI
  • Awards and accreditations.

If you have a clear process or a custom methodology, good to include that on your website as well to give your clients reassurance that we’ve been through this before, and we’ve been through this enough that we have our own way of doing things. The goal is to prove that you are the best fit for this person’s problem.

Step Four: Qualify Leads Before They Contact You

The final step protects your most expensive resource: sales team time.

Consider a dental group ranking for “what are dental implants” with a call to action (CTA) offering a free consultation with its lead surgeon.

As Tim Cameron-Kitchen summarises it: “We’ve got a mismatch here between the intent level and the value of the call to action we’re offering. Someone who two minutes ago searched ‘what are dental implants?’ is very unlikely to turn into a customer. That person who you’re giving the free consultation away with is high value and has finite resource.”

The fix is stage-appropriate CTAs:

  • Checklists, guides, and calculators for early-stage research.
  • Downloadable guides, case studies, and webinars mid-funnel.
  • Book a call, get a quote, or start a consultation only on high-intent pages.

Your forms should also do a lot of heavy-lifting when it comes to pre-qualifying leads.

We built this principle into DSLD Mortgage’s lead form: an eight-stage eligibility check that grades leads as high, medium, low, and grey. It has contributed to over 11,000 mortgage leads, with the sales team focused on the ones most likely to close.

The benefit of qualifying leads before they reach you is both so we can protect your sales team’s time and they can prioritise the leads that are most likely to turn into business, but it also gives you as a marketer feedback about the type of marketing that you’re doing that is generating the highest quality leads.

If you want a prioritised plan for applying them to your own marketing, book a consultation call with our team. We will review your existing marketing, look at your commercial goals, and map out how to drive more high-quality leads from your website rather than just increase lead volume.
