Frequently Asked Questions
Copywriting is the process of writing text for adverts and marketing. In digital marketing, copywriting is used throughout a business’s website, with a particular emphasis on its homepage and key landing pages (such as a service page or product page).
The intention of good copywriting is that it sells the benefits of a purchase to a customer.
If someone is buying an electric car for the first time and an advert lists the distance the car can travel on a single charge, then it goes some way to highlight a key feature, but well-written copy will take it a step further and talk about the benefits to persuade it’s viewers.
The style of copywriting used for websites differs from the copy used elsewhere — such as a tweet from a business’s account — as it not only has to sell benefits to a customer but also has to be optimised for search engines (we call this, “search engine optimisation”).
Copy optimised for search (Search Engine Optimisation) is more likely to help a page rank at the top of Google for important phrases used by a business’s target market. The best copywriters balance writing for search engine optimisation with what will sell the product or service to their audience – and create copy that is both optimised to draw traffic to the website and compel that traffic to convert once it gets there.
We frequently refer to websites as ‘your 24-hour salesperson’. If your sales team was limited to using only the words and phrases on your website, would they close the deal? Copywriting is mission-critical if you want to engage anyone online with your business and what you have to offer.
Copywriting turns boring business language into compelling words and propositions. The impact that good copywriting can have on a website’s conversion rate is frequently underestimated – to the detriment of the business owner. The style of writing should reflect the business’s brand voice, but also the platform that the copy is destined for.
Shorter, bouncier statements tend to suit things like social media posts, while clear and informative copy would better suit a blog or article. When it comes to digital marketing, the two key elements of copywriting that are most commonly overlooked are the copy’s ability to sell and the copy’s ability to support a website’s ranking on search engines and therefore attract new customers.
Great copy doesn’t list features; it should feature benefits. Typically those benefits relate back to saving someone time, making things easier for them, improving their reputation, increasing money (or saving it), or reducing risk.
The copy on your website should do the same:
“We’ll complete your tax return online and on time, so you don’t have to.”
“We fit windows faster and cheaper than anyone else.”
“Our software improves employee productivity and creates happy employees.”
“We have more vape flavours than anyone else — delivered for free.”
In the same way as this section of this page lists the benefits of copywriting, your pages must explain the benefits of your products or services in the same human way.
We have a team of Copywriting Specialists who do just that. They write copy. And they excel at it.
Each of our Copywriting Specialists is an expert at researching the topics that will engage their client’s audience, sourcing and pitching publications, understanding and using their client’s brand voice, and of course, writing copy that will turn visitors into leads and sales.
Often business owners ask us how our copywriters will be able to write about their subject – and sometimes they’re really niche! We do our best to match new clients with Copywriters who have written about their industry before. When that’s not possible, we pick expert researchers and learners who can write about just about anything. While your Content Writer may not be an expert in the truck ball bearings industry, they are an expert in researching and writing about a topic.
In fact our teams are so good at this, that they soon become experts in the fields that they are writing for. We have writers who have researched and written so much about HR that they now are able to advise us on topics internally, and we have others who have worked on vape campaigns and have gone on to be invited to speak at ‘hardcore’ vaping conferences – despite having never used an e-cigarette in their life.
You’ll have a dedicated Project Manager who will be your primary point of contact. They will work closely with you to ensure that the work we do produces the business results you are looking for, as well as leading the team inside Exposure Ninja.
As part of our dedication to ensuring your campaign is working as hard for you as it can, your Project Manager will be on hand to help advise you on other areas of marketing as needed.
They’ll be available by phone appointments or email, and we will update you weekly on progress so you always know exactly what we’re working on (and why). We’ll also send over your monthly reports and will be available to talk these through with you via phone or video chat to make sure you understand each one fully.
Your monthly report isn’t some boring spreadsheet extracted from some project management software. No, we write our reports each month to tell you:
- What we’ve done
- Why we’ve done it
- How close we are to achieving your goals.
Reports don’t have to be complicated, so ours aren’t.
Monthly campaigns also come with a live dashboard that reports on how well your campaign is going. You can preview one here.
If you have a lot of traffic to your website already, new or improved copywriting can increase leads or sales fast.
If you don’t have a lot of traffic, then you may only see a small increase straight away. But, as your traffic increases, the quality of that copy will convert people at a high percentage. In addition, search engine optimising your copy will increase Google’s understanding of your website pages, and help them to rank better – drawing more traffic to your website.
For a steady increase in traffic, we suggest using search engine optimisation.
For a rapid increase in traffic, we suggest using pay-per-click advertising.
For the ultimate strategy that balances both short term and long term growth, we would usually recommend a combination of the two strategies.
