In This Episode
Welcome to our podcast that aims to help you generate more leads and sales for your website.
And today’s show is all about helping you to do exactly that.
Everything that we do at Exposure Ninja within SEO is white hat. By that, I mean, everything that we do is within Google’s guidelines and is designed to be very low risk. This is because, for many of our listeners, we know that they may not want to take the risk of straying into the dark side for fear of Google’s penalties.
However, for this episode, we’re going to park that philosophy entirely, as we are joined by one of the most prominent voices within SEO, with a fair amount of black hat experience, Craig Campbell.
So let’s dive into the dark side of SEO and what we can learn from using black hat SEO strategies.
*Disclaimer – we’re not advocating doing these strategies as best SEO practice, but discussing them for informational purposes only. Please be aware there can be a lot of risks when implementing these strategies.
What is Black Hat SEO?
Black Hat SEO is defined as a disapproved practise that could increase a page’s ranking in a search engine result page (SERP).
Black hat practices are those that are against the search engine’s terms of service and can result in the site being banned from the search engine and affiliate sites. A list of tactics and strategies employed by black hat SEO practitioners have been openly denounced on Google’s Webmaster Guidelines and Bing’s Webmaster Guidelines.
The term “black hat” originated in Western movies to distinguish the “bad guys” from the “good guys,” who wore white hats.
What Are Black Hat SEO Strategies?
If you’re just getting started in SEO, it’s often hard to know which tactics you should and shouldn’t use. While many of the SEO basics are clear-cut white hat strategies, many of the more advanced tactics require more attention to detail.
However, make sure you’re following the right advice. Some recommended tactics on blogs or social media groups may sound like “advanced” strategies, but in reality, they are just leading you toward more black hat techniques.
Here are examples of the black hat SEO tactics that we discuss:
1. Keyword Stuffing
2. Duplicate Content
3. Image Credit
4. Expired Domains
6. Misleading Redirects
7. Negative SEO
