As we’ve covered this topic in detail, we’ll leave out any other overarching project-based tools. Instead, expect to find other tools that make individual activities easier, helping you to automate processes, rely on expert sources and organise files.

20. Source Bottle — Any opportunities that aren’t visible on HARO will be present in Source Bottle’s newsletter subscription. At no cost, there’s no harm in signing up to both publicity platforms.

21. Kolabtree — Want an expert opinion? This platform allows you to tailor your search to scientists and researchers who hold the relevant qualifications to back up their claims.

22. Answer the Public — Get instant access to a spider-diagram of the web’s most asked questions in your industry. Simply type a topic or keyword into the search bar to be presented with reams of data.

23. Moz — This comprehensive tool includes a rank checker, link explorer and local search. However, it’s most common function is Moz’s Domain Authority bar that rates the validity of every website ever.

24. Screaming Frog —- Thinking about getting technical? This leading website crawler will be your best friend. With it, you can quickly audit sites and identify issues.

25. Keywords Everywhere — This Chrome extension is a firm favourite with most of our team. Simple but effective, Keywords Everywhere offers related terms for anything you search.

26. Neil Patel’s Ubersuggest — If you’re looking just to scratch the surface with SEO, Ubersuggest will offer a domain overview to give you a glimpse of yours and your competitors positioning in search.

27. Majestic — Search enthusiasts might prefer to use Majestic, which gives a more substantial overview, offering accurate website data that trumps basic domain authority.

28. Google Autocomplete — Arguably the most obvious SEO item, this search feature might be hard-pressed to be labelled a tool in itself. That said, experts rely on autocomplete as its results come from the horse’s mouth — Google.

42. Giphy — Search gifs or make your own using Giphy — the web’s most relatable hub of content. We all know GIFs can add fun to an otherwise boring message, spark debate on Twitter and spice up corporate social replies — so use them.

43. Landscape — This tool courtesy of Sprout Social is a quick way to resize your images for social media. Make cover photos, profile images and main posts in a flash.

45. Mention — Learn about social listening and let this automated tool do all of the eavesdropping for you. You can effectively monitor the success of your campaign and whether you were successful in creating a buzz.

46. TweetDeck — As a conversational platform, Twitter requires its own communication management tool in the form of TweetDeck. See real live comments, reactions and re-tweets using this dashboard-style tool. If your goal is to reply to everyone on Twitter, this is a must-have.

47. Unsplash — Get professional images for free. Search a keyword to be met with thousands of non-copyright images to use on your socials and beyond.

49. Color Picker — In the process of colour coding your feed? Let this tool guide your decision by analogous colours and colour harmonies.

50. Pinterest — Struggling for social content inspo? Build boards on Pinterest of visuals that inspire and excite you.

51. Wavve — Share audio content on social but don’t make it boring. This tool uses your audio files to create a visual wave so you can drive traffic to online interviews, YouTube videos and podcasts via social.

52. Promo — Make marketing videos without filming a second of footage. You can make videos for desktop as well as for stand-out social feeds.

57. Quip — Quip is a medley of both instant messaging and digital documents. You can now effectively live chat while writing reports or checking important documents.

58. Evernote — If you’re the sort of marketing manager who flits from desktop to mobile, this note-taking app will work for you. This is more than jotting down notes — with Evernote you can clip extracts from the web and find words in handwritten text.

59. Google Calendar — Especially handy if you’re using Gmail and Google Hangouts to make appointments, Google Calendar will automatically show upcoming calls and events to give you an overview of your schedule.

You’ve Got Tools. Now, Where’s the Instructions?

We all know that the power of tools quickly diminishes without the knowledge of how or when to use them.

You can’t use a spirit level to tighten screws or find balance using an Allen key.

That’s why we can’t sign out without saying a few words on how to implement the above range of tools.

You won’t find that sinking feeling of unpacking IKEA’s flatpack furniture only to be met with confusing diagrams that look nothing like the real deal. Our instructions are nice and clear.

Consider the following:

  • Use Your Common Sense — That’s right, our formal advice is that the onus is on you. Realistically, you won’t need all 84 tools today. Instead, you’ll know which you could do with implementing this afternoon, which next week and the ones you should start thinking about using a few months down the line.
  • If You Don’t Find Something Useful, Someone Else Will — Perhaps you’re reading through this list dismissing productivity apps and training resources as things you don’t want or need. Yet, it’s always helpful to keep these resources on file for team members who might have a skills gap or a productivity problem.
  • Don’t Double up on Similar Tools — A few of the tools featured on this list present a cross over — such as Buffer and Hootsuite, for example. We’re not suggesting you use both social media scheduling tools and pay double the monthly subscription. Instead, you should review the best fit for your business. That said, there are some instances where different variations of the same tool — especially when they’re free — might help to offer another perspective. Keyword research tools are a good example of this.
  • Take the Task in Hand into Consideration — There are 15 social media tools and 15 productivity tools on this list. Using 15 tools to write a single social post or implementing 15 productivity tools to save time will hardly be worth it. In fact, we’d guess your social post would sound and look robotic and over-the-top while you might actually lose time (and significant storage space) by downloading so many productivity apps.
